There've been many, many great genre films over the years. While horror, sci-fi and monster movies can be divided into separate genres and categories, there is a lot of overlap between them all. Whether it's killer special effects, oozing make-up or forward-thinking metaphors, each sometimes gets a bum wrap from many because of the so-called 'geek' factor (that and the many crumby genre films that are also out there).

Elite Entertainment's Creature Feature Collection imports a series of three documentaries from English-speaking France that highlight genre films. The DVD contains separate programs entitled "The Beasts", "The Machines" and "The Dead". Each contains extensive collections of classic clips and trailers and make up a greatest hits of sorts for horror and sci-fi fans. Although there isn't a ton of narrative involved, what is there provides both backdrop and interpretation on the history and meaning of these great films. There were times where the balance between clips and narrative were a little on the long side, but overall these three documentaries act as a nice reminder of all the good things and ideas genre filmmaking has to offer.

Video: How's it look?
Each of the three parts in the Creature Features Collection is shown in full screen format. Overall the quality is good but sometimes it can vary greatly depending on the source material.

Audio: How's it sound?
Audio is in a very solid Dolby Stereo. Like the picture, the quality does at times vary from film to film.

Extras: What additional goodies are included?

• What more could you want outside of three documentaries on one disc? Hopefully not much as there isn't anything else.

Closing Thoughts
For fans of genre filmmaking, the Creature Features Collection is a nice collection of documentaries that highlight some of horror and science fiction's greatest moments. That alone should make it worth the price.
